Played another couple of games of chess with my friend over the Internet and lost both. No change there, then. Still, Thomas was helping me move the horsey round the screen, precipitating the need for an exchange at one point 8) Once the horseys were off the screen, he lost interest and started making dinosaurs with play dough. 8) Aaron has expressed an interest in learning chess, so I'm hoping to start teaching him tomorrow. At least I can show him how the pieces move, even if I can't really comment on the subtler aspects of the game! At least I've built up a bit of a library and a gamut of chess related paraphernalia, including the latest version of fritz.
Speaking of that particular page (I know this is sad) there is a tribute to the WTC tragedy of 12 days ago, but it includes the text:On September 11, 1995 New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani played the move 1.c4 to start the World Chess Championship match between Anand and Kasparov on the observation deck of the world Trade Center. Once the TV cameras were switched off, Anand corrected the move to 1.e4.Now, I don't know about anybody else, but during reading this quote for the first time I thought, "1.c4?!". My journey to becoming a chess geek continues apace.
