Birthday Bashes & Chess. Lots of Chess

Posted at 9:33 PM on 15 September 2001

On a somewhat different note, Jon P's birthday bash was ace and managed to shake me out of the morose state I've been in these past few days, and it was nice to see Dave and Mike there too. I know I was in some of the pictures - I dread to think how they've come out (as it was a digital camera, I've seen the postage-stamp sized previews - but nothing quite matches the horror of a full-sized original).

In other news (which I've not really reported over the past however many weeks or so) I've been learning chess. Lots of chess. In fact, it's been keeping me occupied for a quite substantial proportion of my free time. Unfortunately, I'm desperately bad at it. Rectifying this is taking depressingly longer than I would like to admit - I'm pistol whipped by level-one PocketChess in no time at all. I've only managed to beat it once, which was probably far more by luck than judgement. My record against fellow humans is equally poor. Still, I'm going to stick at it; chess is bluddy grate, and I'm having quite a lot of fun rediscovering just how that damned horsey moves... 8)
