Saturday was fun, had a very nice time at a barbecue with Est & Jem (including barbecued bananas with vanilla ice cream and real melted-chocolate sauce - yum!) and we eventually got back home very late (the kids were knackered, too). Weighed myself in the morning and was pleased to discover that since July 1st, I have lost 8 lbs - rah! The only downer on the exercise/keep-fit front is that last night, the big bolt which holds on the right pedal of the ORBITRAC sheared off, and so it's now currently knackered. I was almost exactly halfway through my workout (I was doing really well, too) when there was a bang and my foot was on the floor. Fortunately, I didn't hurt myself as the drop was only a couple of inches. Anyway, they're going to send me a new bolt post-haste (I hope!) but it could take up to 14 days - which would be a bad thing, as I've really developed a routine over the last few weeks.
Other items of note - I've done a complete installation of Debian on my laptop, finally wiping Windows 2000 from the hard disk in the process. I've not so much as booted it for the last couple of months, so I could be pretty confident that I wouldn't be needing it again. It also gave me an excuse to get rid of RedHat at the same time and use my favourite distro. Still need to do a few tidying-up things (a kernel recompilation is the most pressing requirement) but on the whole things are looking pretty smooth. And the joy of apt-get knows no bounds... at least to me.
One final note - I received my very first patch for the dvdlist on Sunday - somebody else has actually found it useful and sent me a bugfix! Wonders will never cease!
I have now owned 2 Orbitracs. The first one had a lot of mechanical problems. The right bolt on the back of pedal broke on me in full step. Just about broke my leg...the front stabilizer bar cracker across the bottom and I had to get it welded. The large gear in the middle of the bike became cracked and I had to order a new one. It still works but makes terrible noises in the gear and clunking. Now I am on the second one and the same things seem to be happening and it is only months old. One week after starting to use it, the front stabilizer bar cracked in the same spot that the old one did. I got it welded. Now there is metal shavings all over the floor on the right side of the bike where the bolt is progressively wearing out more every day, a months worth of working out for 30 minutes almost every day. I know this bolt is soon to break also. Will someone please tell me why this is happening and where can I get a new bolt. What can be done to prevent this. If this is poor construction, maybe the bike should be recalled and money returned or the problem fixed.
Please email me and let me know the answers to my questions.
