I'm really rather depressed. Penny was evicted from the Big Brother household. How people could vote her out in preference for the (if I'm charitable) spectacularly dimwitted Helen, who's biggest claim to fame is that she frequently remembers to breathe, I'll never know. Hopefully they'll show a bit of paint drying in the next episode, to spice things up a bit. Or somebody practicing acupuncture (in the Blue Jam sense of the term) on Amma or Stuart. That'd cheer me up, and no mistake.
I've installed Linux on my laptop (nothing special, RedHat 7.1 for no other reason than it was to hand), although the fan has now started making horrible noises - I daresay I'll end up having to send it off somewhere and not seeing it for 6 weeks. Oh well.
My politician-spotting has continued unabated. Paddy Ashdown was being interviewed just outside the entrance to the building where I work this morning. Daresay I won't be seeing "Little Willy" anymore now he's evicted himself. Blair has won a massive majority on the lowest election turnout in 80 years (less than 60% of the total population) of which about 40% voted Labour. When this percentage is adjusted to take into account all those who were eligable to vote but didn't, the figure is reduced to just 25%. So, while 75% of the electorate didn't vote for Labour, they still won the election with a landslide 413 out of 659 seats. I love meaningless statistics, don't you? 8)
I think that maybe I should chill out a bit more, not take things I can do nothing about so personally. Most things never used to bother me that much; so why do they now, all of a sudden? What can I do about it?
I've been rattling off about all sorts of things of late, flailing and ranting and generally feeling dissatisfied with the whole thing. Most of my bile is probably misdirected, but it kind of leads to the problem of who or what precisely to direct it at. I think I'll blame quantum theory for the time being, in the sense that the very act of observing affects the observed.
Who said science couldn't be profound? 8)
