Last Thursday evening, I was over at a bar near (well, behind) the place I used to work, and so met quite a few people I knew over the course of the evening (Yo, David P!). Which was lots of fun, although it was a bit noisy and busy and I had to repeat the same story many times to many people. Probably embellishing more and more as the evening went on (and as more pints were consumed). Still it was good fun (Big Dave P is avin' it LARGE), although I'm sure I promised to mention someone on this site (Gettin' on down, it's the one, the only Dave P) though I can't remember who it is, or what I was supposed to say. Oh well.
Friday was uneventful. Picked up a couple of books (Terry Pratchett's new book "Thief of Time" and "Shakespeare's Language" by Frank Kermode), a couple of new music CD's and a few knick knacks. Saturday was (mainly) spent looking after the kids (and letting Thomas run amok when I dozed off in front of the telly). Sunday, similarly uneventful (as far as I can remember). Spent a while ripping my new CDs and reading the TP book.
Speaking of which, I'm still trying to make up my mind whether I actually like it or not. On some levels, it's very good, yet on others... I'm not sure. It's probably something to read again and redigest. Looking back on it some of the weaker aspects are explained by re-examining them in the light of the rest of the book, and I did enjoy reading it at the time... I'd probably put it in the "one of the better recent ones" pile at the moment, but not (so far) in the "classic" pile (which would contain, in no particular order and non-exhaustively, Small Gods, Reaper Man, Guards! Guards!, and Lords and Ladies). I'll update my thoughts as and when I have them (e.g. infrequently).
This evening I found out that my former music teacher, Mr Kevin Norbury is actually now a well-respected composer in the New York Salvation Army (amongst other musical achievements). There are certainly more photos of him online than there are of me, as a quick search through google reveals - a fact which is as disturbing as it is a relief, to be honest. Even better, I found the scan link on a Swedish website. This has definitely earned a place in the chris.carline.org 2001 WeirdList.
(Currently topping the WeirdList of late is the inexplicable tendency of people on the web to spell "ridiculous" as "rediculous". Some things I'll never understand. It's probably a meme.)
I'm sure there was other dull stuff to mention, but fortunately I've forgotten what. Best be getting back to it, I spose.
Cheerio for now,
Chris
PS. Ooh, nearly forgot to say "Hi!" to Dave P. Hi, Dave P! Betcha thought I'd forgotten!
