I am weak. Weak, weak

I am weak. Weak, weak weak. For it was today that I happened to make my way into Luton's town centre. And it was today, when having just purchased lunch from the marvellous Subway (£9.99 for 3 footlong subs - enough to feed the army that is my family), I felt compelled to wander into the computer games emporium next door. And it was today when I left said emporium with a brand new Gameboy Advance, with F-Zero and Super Mario games, freshly imported from Japan. In case you were wondering, I have the "Arctic" style. 8)

I've decided to call it "research" for my own game, but who am I kidding? I'm just weak, weak, weak..! I probably won't get any train development done for the next couple of weeks! Aaargh! Let's just say it's a cracking machine, and I'm very pleased I have one. F-Zero is, well... F-Zero (fast fingers only need apply!) and Super Mario is a highly entertaining and suitably enjoyable platformer. I'd heard that it was simply a re-jig of a version that appeared on then SNES, but seeing as I never actually played a SNES (let alone actually own one!), I think I can let that one pass. 8)

Anyway, if anyone is thinking about getting one right-this-minute, I'd tell them not to hold back - even if all the menus are in Japanese. Aha! My current work project is destined for Japan, anyway! Yay, another "research" excuse!!

Another game bought today was Serious Sam, which is a fantastic 3D first-person shooter, but very much in the original "DOOM" mode. That means insane numbers of enemies pouring at you from every direction, and it's probably the most fun I've had blasting things into oblivion since Unreal (although that's not exactly a fair comparison - there were far fewer enemies in Unreal than Serious Sam!). It's certainly set the benchmark against which Doom 3 will be measured (providing, of course, that Doom 3 will tries to recapture the original's essence). A great game, and well worth the "value" price tag (£19.99).

I've not really achieved very much this holiday weekend, have I? 8)

Oh well!
