Well, four days into the

Well, four days into the new job now, and I feel I'm beginning to settle. It's a whole different world and one that I'm definitely not used to. The offices are very nice, though - I'd forgotten quite how impressive they were. I have my own fax line, for the first time ever. I mean, a fax! Who uses a fax in preference to email? Anyway, I'm now able to navigate around the offices a bit, fortunately they've subtly colour-coded the lifts, so I know which one to use. They're also labelled with compass-style "NW", "SE" and so forth, but I wouldn't stand a hope in hell of remembering those!

I'm still waiting for my work-computers to turn up. At the moment I'm using a spare with an LCD display that's blurry. It must take some spectacular manufacturing skill to build a supposedly high-end screen and give it less focus than a dodgy CRT. I can't wait to get something a little easier on the eyes!

So I'm now commuting to Victoria/Grosvenor Place. It actually only takes about 10-20 minutes longer to get to than does Farringdon/Clerkenwell, which was a nice surprise as I was expecting it to take in the region of 30-40 minutes more. I can't remember who told me the Victoria line wasn't too bad, but they were right! I still think I'm going to try out the coach next week, even though it'll take a bit longer - it works out at about a hundred quid cheaper per month than the train, and basically runs me to the door. And it's air conditioned. And the seats recline. It's the little things, I suppose!

On Wednesday night, the people who run the trains decided to close Kings Cross Thameslink station, leaving me no sensible alternative but to wait until things had calmed down a bit. So I ended up in Farringdon - close to where Phil (a member of my old team at Wheel) was having birthday drinks. Twas great to see the guys again, even if I did (most probably) bore them senseless. Obviously, they're used to it by now! I had to leave quite early and eventually managed to get home by about 10pm (the trains were still shafted, though) to appease the Missus, but it all turned out all right in the end. 8)

More dull stuff "as it happens" in future episodes!

Cya,

Chris
