Surprisingly (I'm easily surprised) I've been inundated with requests for "pop idol" comments following the departure of Darius on Saturday. To be honest, I'm bored with it now. As the whittling progresses, I find the whole thing less interesting. In fact, the only item of note is that, regardless of who wins, they're going to have a speech impediment.
Personally, my vote is for "anyone who's not Gareth". Which means (almost by default - the only other choice is not to vote) it's Will. More unusually, I actually quite like Will. I think he'd make a much better Pop Idol than Gareth (who has all the personality of a kipper). So I'll be voting for him. But unless everybody else does it, I'm pissing in the wind, as Gareth is almost certainly going to win. You see, I'm not in the target demographic (and never have been!). Target Demographic likes cute boys with stutters who can't sing very well. For about 5 minutes.
In fact, I strongly suggest that Zoe, Will and Darius actually have careers ahead of them. Despite the cane (which was a piss take, lets face it) Darius can actually write songs and is probably more talented than most people give him credit. Will can transform just about any song into his own. Someone who can transform "Sweetest Feeling" by Jackie Wilson into their own shouldn't be underestimated; Will's going to go far. Zoe has a phenominal voice, crying out for songs that can do it justice. And with a little wind behind her, she'll do it, too.
Gareth looks pretty with his goofy-gap teeth and stutter, but will last in the spotlight for about two singles tops, whereas the others, whilst not assured of instant success, will have far longer and more interesting careers.
I predict Gareth to win. I've not voted for anyone yet, and I'm only going to vote once. But I'm voting for Will. And I really, really hope you do too. Anything else is a vote against good taste, a vote against talent, and a vote against reason. Not to vote means Gareth is going to win. Only by acting together can we wing this gormless, talentless, twit.
