Whoever would have thought it? Will actually pipped Gareth to the post in a nail-biting final; both contestants received over 4 million votes each, but Will secured just a few hundred thousand more.
Incredible.
We didn't even get to vote as the lines were constantly engaged. Even the voting web site had locked up...
Anyway. Speechless. Wow.

Ooh. You're right 8) I obviously got a little bit over-excited and forgot to mention that this was, in fact, a good thing. 8)
Anyway. If Gareth had won, I'd have entitled my post "Pap Idol", which I'll not now be able to do. The git.
Oh well. Dunno want I'm going to post here anymore. Maybe chris.carline.org will end up as a virtual wasteground like yours Mike? 8) All you need is an image of some tumbleweed and the effect would be complete! ;)
Actually, it was Will who looked the most visibly shocked; after all, it's been a week of "Will's more talented but Gareth will win it" soundbites - not to mention Gareth being the bookies favourite for weeks now...
But anyway, after he was finally announced winner, our house literally errupted in cheers. Of course, Terri was on the phone to my sister almost straight away to gloat - Julia was a bit of a Gareth fan, y'see. 8)
To be fair though, Gareth was gracious in defeat; my estimation of him has increased significantly (I didn't know he played the piano quite well until after the voting ended - they obviously kept quiet about these facets of the contestants so as to concentrate purely on pop-idolness as opposed to genuine musical ability).
Looking back though, it seems to me that whilst Gareth had the 'teenie' vote, Will actually had a broader appeal overall - a sign that the show succeeded beyond its target demographic - and probably something they didn't expect.
Certainly, given the structure of the final show, and the songs chosen for them, Gareth was given a distinct edge; but obviously to no avail.
Anyway. At the end of it all, it really didn't matter who won. The uphill battle begins now - a battle which hear'say so obviously lost in spectacular fashion.
It remains to be seen if any of them succeed without the oxygen of television; talent (unfortunately) isn't enough to guarantee anything beyond a few months.
I've burbled enough. Time to look for another hobby horse!
PS. Mike - if I was holding my breath I'd have been dead 3 months ago - which was when you last posted. 8)
i was impressed that either of the popidols could take a song and sing it without any real emotion or skill in their voice, just how did will sing "light my fire" that badly....

all we have to look forward to now is will releasing his song (a #1) and then the following 9 runners-up (all under contracts) releasing there very own over-engineered efforts (but only 3 months after the winner is announced as per contract)

Here is a good Christian boy who obviously loves his family and probably small dogs and who has set an example to the whole world. What an incredible voice. Unfortunately I don't mean his! I'd just like to say that there is no need to bitch about Gareth or any of the other contestants as it is over now. The public voted for Will, and personally I think they made the right decision. He is talented, charming, good looking, and educated which makes a nice change...and his coming out doesn't really affect anything apart from that now he doesnt have to cover up who he is, and a true Pop Idol should feel able to be exactly who they are when they go onstage. I think Will young is the sexiest man alive. And i would love to meet him, wow and who ever likes Gareth has a problem a serious 1. Every 1 knows that will has the best voice and he is a real pop idol. Will young is the most exciting talent to emerge in decades. He voice touches my heart and I can't wait for his album. I think it was pretty obvious from early on that Will was gay - he was just too nice to be a macho man. In spite of the obvious attempts to engineer a win for Gareth (lovely though he is) I think that we, the public, were magnificent on voting night. In our house the age range was from 10 to 74, 8 people (not a teenage girl in sight)and we all cheered when he won. WHAT A VOICE! and what a genuine guy.
will rules i take about 65 mini pics f himin my purse evry where i stick up 4 hi m4 being gay @ sch i think his voice is like wow! and he is sexy. he has a gr8 vbody and unlike gareth isnt a pin body wiv a bit of belly flab!!! will is basically better and that is why more ppl voted 4 him . will has fans frm evry age group im 13 and i only have a few friends who r will fsns but around 15-22 yr old mosrt prob prefer will . the old old ppl and middleage women love gareth. he has a baby face will is a man and a yummy 1 at that!!
Just think i would like to hear Will belt out some more classic tunes. I would love to hear him sing "Holding Back The Years", he's far better than Mick Hucknall.
Also, i thought Will would win after i first saw him perform on P.I. Gareth's voice is very soft and he may end up like the other great softie of all time... Cliff Richard.....I dread the thought!!!
the fact that the pop-idol "music" has been successful just proves that kids have no idea of the value of money and waste it on shite - it were different in my day....
if either of them were a real talent, they would actually write their own songs rather than having to rely on someone elses talent (that of the writer and the sound engineer making them sound half decent)
of course like all "produced" singers i'm hoping they both disappear in the next few months back from whence they came...
Just to keep the thread going ... got a CD signed on Monday by him ... and he is still lovely and gorgeous! Also, his album is very good - not typical manufactured songs ... i would assume that his future material will be even better as he gains more control, considering some of the better tracks on the album are co-written by him! Thumbs up as well for actually coming out of the closet, as most gay "popstars" dont have the courage. Also 8 months on and he's still popular - beaten Hear'Say already!!!
i think will is great and deserved to win, gareth was ok but has slagged will off so much that now we all know who the true real winner and talent of pop idol is and that is Mr william young - pop idol, will has the voice and the personality and i think we all have realised by now that gareth has absolutely no personality and no manners at all. The school may be top of the leaderboard but I would suggest that there would have to be lot of people attending with a high IQ to make up for the drop in the average that Natalie is adding.

Natalie, no need to say sorry, as far as I'm aware the comments here with my name (and website address) are all mine, as to my reasons for being here which you ask in one of your posts, quite simple really, one reason is that I can't stand pop idol and what it represents in the music industry (it may account for the 4% drop in music sales last year) but the main (and more boring) reason is I've known the owner of this website for 18 years and so read it as a way of seeing what Chris is up to. (Yes, it's a shock I know, this isn't a Will Young fan site, this is a personal website where the owner / author commented on pop idol)

singing a song that a lot of people know in a completely unusual style was brave of darius, yes he was a bit full of himself then, but then given his singing / songwriting talents he should be....
Will / Gareth on the other hand have to rely on the tried and tested formula of rehashing other peoples hits.
bloody hell, will you at least turn caps lock off ... it makes you look even more of a moron than the absolute tripe you type. The whole will/gareth/pop idol bollox is a great piece of marketing that you have fallen for hook, line, sinker and copy of the angling times. The songs are produced by committee with one thing in mind, how can we maximise our revenue? They are very good at their jobs. It doesn't mean that Will has any excess amount of talent beyond having the bollox to go on the show and have the right look.
And Richard, if you really love Natalie, do us all a favour and take her out on a date or something so she stops shouting at us. oh, and wtf does "ONE IS LOVELY" mean?

yes natalie, you could probably describe me as a computer geek. As is the owner of this website, as are many of the visitors. Do you know why? Because this isn't a will young site! If you look carefully at all the other links around the page, and the rest of the content, you will realise that this is a personal site, where chris made a couple of comments about pop idol, and then a bunch of strange (and clearly a little slow) teenagers wandered along and started making inane comments about how much they love will and gareth.
don't let that stop you though, it's become one of the best bits on any of our websites!!

i went for a pop idol audition and met roxanne so im rootin for her,and chris.kirsty aint nothin special,neither is brian he aint really my type hes a bit too perfect for me!go roxy huni,my number was 7375 and pop idol is a big fix because you have to go thru 3 rounds of auditions before you get to the judges so it aint as easy as it seems.
Wow what a lot of babble! Well I think Will is top and this years pop idol is absolute crap. Saturdays show was the crappest pile of crap ever. I could have gone on singing 'who let the dogs out' and have got through! That guy who sang at the end with his Darius-esque mad over the top singing was the only thing that saved it!
