I think you're wrong about Eastenders...It's not a soap, it's the best television I think I've ever scene. You can't even compare it with American so-called "Soaps." I once saw one where I guy who had died some 13 times was back and had brainwashed this stupid chick and some dumb guy into believing they were a spy and a princess and all they did all day was float around in a submarine off the coast of Florida, unbeknownst to the Coast Guard, of course! And on Eastenders people don't wake up with makeup, and YES sometimes they have the same bathrobe for 2 years like normal people. EASTENDERS RULES!!!

I agree. EastEnders is the biggest boil on the smelly bottom that is the BBC these days. It's hard to think of anything that could be more depressing (apart from perhaps Big Bother and Papstars) but I'm sure the boys at the BBC are working on it even now.

For the record, I would like to say that EastEnders has kind of lowered in standards over the past few years but every so often they come up with a storyline which is somewhat taboo, serving the purpose of hopefully educating some ignorant people out there about other aspects and problems in life. When it does this, it is second to none and when it doesn't it serves as good chewing gum for the eyes.

Jamie's Death

25th December 2002, 21.1 and 17 million viewers (two episodes), written by Tony Jordan and Carey Andrews.

A week before Christmas 2002, Jamie was on his way to see his fiancée Sonia. He'd redeemed Ethel's wedding ring with money given to him by Phil. Phil was grateful for Jamie's attempts to help Peggy when she was mugged. Jamie was outside Walford East tube station with some flowers for Sonia when he was knocked flying by a car driven by Martin Fowler.

As Jamie lay in his hospital bed, he received a stream of visitors. At first, only Phil and Sonia knew he had no chance of recovery. They decided to keep the prognosis from Jamie, but they had to break the terrible news to Billy. Jamie thought Billy's highly emotional state was down to pre-wedding nerves and urged him to enjoy his big day.

Sonia spent as much time with Jamie as she could. He drifted in and out of consciousness. She wished him a Happy Christmas, knowing it would be his last. Jamie had no idea how serious his condition was, and wondered when he'd be leaving hospital. He asked Sonia not to blame Martin for the accident.

Phil was supposed to be carrying out the best man's duties at Billy's wedding. Instead, he was waiting outside Jamie's room. Finally, he summoned up the courage to say his last words to Jamie. Phil apologised for the way he'd treated Jamie. He broke down in tears as he expressed his pride in his godson.

Sonia could barely control her emotions as she described the future she'd share with Jamie. He vowed to cling on and show the doctors that they were wrong. Sonia imagined the beautiful house they'd be living in next Christmas. She knew it was a hopeless fantasy, but she wanted to keep Jamie's spirits up.

Jamie held up Ethel's ring and pledged his eternal love to Sonia. He placed the ring on Sonia's finger and they kissed. Jamie took a turn for the worse and Sonia called for help. The doctors rushed in, but there was nothing anyone could do. Jamie Mitchell died on Christmas Day. Coincidentally, at the very same moment Jamie passed away, Billy married Little Mo.

Well, I love Eastenders, and I watch it in the US where we really have to work to get the show. You don't know how lucky you are to just be able to turn on the set and see the Square without all the fuss we have to go through - send donations to public tv stations, live through your BBC's selfish cousin, BBC America while it brings the show on, convinces subscribers to pay for expensive tiers of digital cable channels and then terminates Eastenders because it forgot to promote the show. Oops. See what you can do on your side of the Atlantic to get Eastenders back on American TVs, please.

I hate Eastenders because it represents humanity at its lowest level. All the blokes in it are villains, no-gooders or thugs, and they all call the women slags, cows and tarts. Nobody ever laughs. Everyone is violent or into villainy of some sort. It glorifies everything that is bad.

I can't understand why an entire nation becomes gripped and enthralled by such a terrible programme. Nothing doom, gloom, misery, depression, sadness I could go on forever. It is performed by a team of mindless cockneys who have about as much acting ability as fly up my bum. What is particularly disturbing is that the BBC actually suggest that this is their finest creation. Now that IS disturbing.

I think EastEnders has become dreadful, not to mention completely weird. Of course, there's only one person I blame for this tripe: LOUISE BERRIDGE. Or even maybe MAL YOUNG, Louise Berridge's boss. I was so glad when Louise Berridge had gone. Kathleen Hutchison made the show no better. Alright, she weren't as bad as Berridge, but she could have done loads better. Anyway, I'll try and forget these people, as I've now seen Kate Harwood's first two episodes. Goodluck!

Well i have to say is really good with Kats return ove been hooked all week even the millars were intersting to watch but Kats return has put the icing on the cake tonights epsode with kat/alfie/billy/little mo was so good I defently think Kat and Alfie should make a go of their marraige as should Little Mo and billy Kat and Alfie are brillent And Shane and Jesse are great actors as is Kacey and whoever plays Billy but Alfie and Kat are the best they make a must see Tv EastEnders is back to its best i have a strong feeling 2005 will be a good year for EastEnders so everyone whose deserted EastEnders Tune back in you wont be dissapointed come on give it one last chance rocket those viewing figures kick corrie and emmerdale of their pedastool

I think that although i don't personally like eastenders, you are all sad to spend you're lives slagging it off - you're no better than the people who write this trash believing it to be a big deal... If you can't say anything nice about it then just let it go - it's not your problem , is it?

The slaters should all go they have had their day in EastEnders they've had so many great storylines theirs only one option left get rid and bring in a new family with the same talent and good storylines ive enjoyed all the slater storylines when they go there be known for ages for making eastenders its best but know itys time to put em ouyt their misery and axe them all thats happening is kat and little mo are fighting for alfies affection not great entertainment as little mo is boring to watch and whats their dad charlie been up to nothing and their be no future for kat either even though jesses a good actress and could go along way in hollywood its time to blow the slater house up with them in it the've had their day big mo should stay though shes funny

Perhaps all Carlines have a natural dislike of Soap opera, especially Eastenders which is the Nth degree of depression - we certainly do. We do, however admire certain varieties of thistle, and all white witches - but not those who have gone to the dark side!

I hate eastenders because the plots are really crap and their little greenhouses really get on my wick. Also when having been in the unfortunate situation of being forced to watch it due to the Orwellian climate in the UK leads me to suecidal tendancies burgeoning on insanity . However in reality their are no such things as eastenders as the district it used to occupy now is a supermarket called Tesco.

EastEnders is: scowling bulldog-faced thugs in a world of unrelenting misery,
placed in a seemingly endless series of aggressive face-offs (Harry Enfield's
"Scousers" with Cockney accents); that's about it.

Soaps want viewers to put themselves in the characters' place, so it really
amounts to an intensive course in aggression and confrontation.
Just surround them with a ring of schoolchildren chanting "Fight! Fight!"
to complete the image

i live in a small strett and i know 2 other ppl with the same first name as myself. so that goes to show how "realistic" the show is.

almost half the characters end up dying in some unrealistic fashion, the acting is truly awful,and the storylines 100% predictable and unrealistic!

PLUS all the weirdos above who say its great all have one thing in common- none of them can spell properly. NUFF SAID!
