I left the office this afternoon at about 1755 GMT. I finally walked in the front door at 2250 GMT. Apparently, it's been a bit wet...
I made up a song today. Well, I didn't make up the tune, no. I pinched that from the song "The Wheels on the Bus". But the words go like this:Reminds me of a joke:
The M25 and the M1 walk into a bar. Brash and confident, the M1 pushes past the A5 and orders a drink for them both at the bar. The A5 looks angrily up at him, but the M1 looks him staight in the eye and tells him that if he has a problem, to step outside. The A5 demures, and the M1 and M25 settle back and enjoy their drinks. Later that evening, the Milton Keynes red way enters the pub.
Making his way to the bar, he brushes past the M1, causing him to spill his pint. Glaring at the M1, the red way dares the M1 to make something of it. The M1 turns as white as a sheet, and proceeds to spend the rest of the evening hiding in the toilets.
Curious, the M25 follows him in and asks what the matter is.
"Haven't you heard?" exclaims the M1, "That Milton Keynes red way is a cycle path!".
(P.S. I know there are good cyclists in London, it's just that they're pretty rare!)
there seems to be a growing anti-cycling trend at the moment, various papers have run articles on lycra louts etc and i think that tbh a lot of the articles have a large element of truth to them, it is all very well pointing out how they are good for the environment etc but if cyclists in london keep breaking traffic laws and generally behaving like total tossers then they have no right to complain when they next skip through a red light and get flattened by something large and unyielding... i've lost count the number of times i've almost been knocked down by cyclists on the path / going through junctions....
As probably the most enthusiastic cyclist stopping by this site on a regular basis, I would have to say that I agree with the point that cyclists charging through red lights are a frickin' menace! I personally always stop for red lights if there are is any other traffic around me.
On the other hand, there is so little provision for cyclists in London that I can understand the frustration that cyclists feel. Here in the land of many cycle lanes, motorists know more often where cyclists are going to be and are also much more tolerant towards such basic things as giving cyclists the same right of way they would give a car user.
However - take away the cycle path and the average Gothenburg driver is completely unprepared for dealing with cyclists in the traffic. sigh
Just so that you don't all think I'm too biased, I can also announce that I've started taking driving lessons (just had my 2nd), so soon I'll be bowling over cyclists and cursing at them too! ;-)
