Milly is currently going through a phase of asking "What's that?" whenever she sees something (and sometimes, even when she doesn't). It's a great game. At least, it is from her perspective...
In other news, I'm slowly but inexorably moving towards sorting out my web stuff, various projects I've started but not finished, and fixing minor computer-based annoyances.
And I've also decided to go on a diet. My tummy (and the rest of me, to be honest) has finally reached the point where I can't ignore it any longer. Moreover, the humid weather has made the extra insulation I carry about even less pleasant than it already is. So I've settled on something sensible (healthy eating, slightly smaller portions, reduced starchy carbohydrates intake), and am currently considering a more rigorous exercise regime.
It's early days yet though. I'll see how I go...
Coo to hear that MIlly is discovering the world around her ;-)
As someone who recently took a similar step regarding weight control, I can recommend that your approach sounds pretty sensible. You might see if you can track down some kind of physical activity which you consider to be fun as well. If you're anything like me, the idea of gyms and things probably makes your skin crawl, but what about more interesting activities such as cycling, swimming, canoeing, climbing etc.
I'm just flinging out ideas of course, but I definitely found that it was when I started to find activities I really liked that I managed to actually control my weight. If you can find things that you can share with the family, then even better of course! Even going on a brisk walk every day makes an appreciable difference. (The idea about Geocaching in the second link below may be up your street).
These links may give some more exciting ideas:

In my opinion though, the biggest step required to lose weight is working up the initial motivation to change your habits. Dieting and exercise follow from that - if the motivation's not there, you won't succeed. Simple as that.
I've been working up my motivation pool for the last few years, so fingers crossed I have enough to last me a while.
I also think it's important not to go bonkers. Self-flaggelation is all very well, but tends to make very little difference, e.g. having a few pints once a week won't make much difference if you're sensible the rest of the time. Although it can be a slippery slope if you're not motivated enough...
Anyway. I think I'm doing well enough so far, though I'll try to keep you posted as the weeks go by. 8)
