Yesterday evening, I attended a talk on Perl 6 given by Damian Conway. Although I've been following the Apocalypses and Exegeses quite closely over past months, there's nothing quite like a superb presentation to fire up the imagination...
Unfortunately, Perl 6 will be in development for quite a while longer yet before anything usable emerges, but most of what I've seen so far is so amazingly cool that <whine>I want it now!</whine>
As Olly (who I went with) reflected as we left, "It's like Christmas. When you were young, and saw something you wanted, you asked your parents whether you could have it... and they'd say 'Not yet! Wait until Christmas'!" (I'm paraphrasing, but that was the gist).
If only it'd be out by Christmas... But then, as parents also occasionally say: "Maybe next Christmas, eh?" 8)
