Designer Babies

I'm notexactly sure if designing a baby to prevent disease or aiding another child is wrong. If anything it seems more benefical in the medical world. On the other hand, do parents have the right to play god when it comes to THEIR own children. I stress "their" because the situation differs depending on the family. I personally have a condition known as Graves' Disease, and if my parents had a choice; they would probably alter my genes to prevent any diseases at all if given the chance. So really every family is different, so I guess I stand divinded on the thin line of Medicine and The Role of God. If any one could find a well educated reason why/why not, I would love to hear it.

I am doing a debate on this issue and personally, if my child was going to die, or i knew my unborn baby was going to have a fatal illness, i would do anytrhing and everything in my power to help save my child. And if "designer babies" is what i have to do, then im going to do it. I think any parent in their right mind would. Or maybe im wrong. Who knows, but i know i don't think it should be illegal.

history has generally proven that in the end progress will win out over any attempts to restrict it. As a result, I think it is better to have things in the open and therefore subject to regulation and control, rather than forcing it underground and surprising us all at a later date (when a bunch of rampaging mutants escape from the underground lab and eat every red head they come across?!!?) It's not a question of if there will be genetically engineered people, it's a question of when will there be genetically engineered people, and how do we make sure we don't get ahead of ourselves and see wholesale failure of such people (through a lack of genetic diversity, or some unexpected age triggered problem such as with dolly)

I think that the parents should decide wether or not

{What will it be used for and who will benefit from it.} im talking bout the technology?
