I don't know how long I've spent pairing socks over the years, but whatever it is, it's far too long. I'm sure I can't be the only one to be irritated by this. They come out of the wash, and you have to spend ages sorting them out, finding the perfect partner for each sock. It's a pain, it takes ages, and there's something fundamentally pointless to performing a task that practically nobody will notice anyway.
So, with this as a backdrop, I came up with what I consider to be a revolutionary new product idea: "Approximate Socks". Sold in packs of five, no two socks are ever the same - just variations on a theme. Slightly different stitching, slightly different patterns/colours, different material... you get the idea. Since no sock would have an obvious partner, the process of pairing becomes pointless - you just pick two socks from the pile and you're off.
I genuinely believe this is an idea whose time has come.
