Vanity Searching

I'm sure we all do it. Of course by that I mean, "well, I know I do it", and to paraphrase Ben Elton (when he was good and not writing Queen and Rod Stewart musicals), it's the equivalent of laying a few sheets of paper in the lavatory to "deaden the plop", in that it's a bit of a risk mentioning it in case you're the only one and everybody else thinks you're a bit weird.

It never ceases to amaze me where things turn up.

A case in point. A few weeks ago, having rolled back after an evening out on the beers, I read something about what David Blunkett had said/done today, became incandescent with rage, and posted something here. Of course, when I woke up in the morning, even in my hungover state I felt that I was probably going a bit far to have something like that under my name, so I deleted it.

I think it was something I've been known to have said before, just not here.

I'd also drafted an email to my MP, but fortunately I hadn't sent it as I was getting tired and thought I'd "finish it later". I deleted that too.

Anyway, the upshot is that the entry was available for about five hours tops.

Now where was I? Oh yes. Vanity searching.

This evening I popped my name into Google, and found I was "quote of the day" or something on various sites across the Internet (I imagine it was just the one site that referenced me, and the others syndicated it). From my deleted post. Oops. There go my chances as a career politician ;-).

But my point is, be careful what you write - especially after you've had a jar or two.

Anothing thing also turned up: Apparently, I'm one of two bloggers in Luton. And to think, we've had running water for ages. I find this hard to believe, but then again it's probably that other bloggers haven't mentioned their locations yet. At least I hope it is...

There's other stuff too, but even less interesting that what I've mentioned already, so I think it's probably time to call it quits. :-)

Hi Chris,
I was reading your blogs when I came across the Arndale center - that meant either Manchester or Luton further evidence suggested Luton so I linked your your site! I am sure there are many bloggers in Luton, I am looking! If you know of any let me know!
